1.5 mile shakeout, 1.5 mile warmup. Got out hard the first 2 miles, Caleb was there for 1. After 2 I started to feel weak and fell off the pace, finished in 14:59. Kinda disappointed cuz I ran 14:52 last year but oh well. Did some rage miles after, 5:35 and 5:03. The 5:03 was actually faster than my last mile of the race so that's not good. I need to refocus a little but I'll be ready for NXR. Happy to finally reach my goal of being a state champion even though I ran the 3rd fastest time of the day. Excited to get in some races with crazy good competition. Headed to Flagstaff this weekend to visit NAU. Oh and shout out to Anna for getting second and Abby for killing it

Good job today man. How about those people that made you trip on the track? That’s probably what lost you the 7 seconds from last year

It's great that you can be a state champion, no one can take that away. It's good too that you're realistic, but definitely enjoy this. It's a big accomplishment. NXR can be great because there you can test yourself against others in your same class, but it's a big deal to say you're a Utah state champion. Well done.

Don't undervalue the difference between having competition around you and running alone. Last year you were hanging with some of the best runners of the nation, today you ran alone.

Nothing more disappointing than being a state champion, being scouted by the top two ranked XC teams in the nation, and being on track to get an all-American status in XC!
